Red Devils drew first blood

Jose Mourinho won his silverware as manager of Manchester United as the Red Devils defeated Leicester City in the Charity Shield.

Jesse Lingard puts United ahead after an amazing run. Last season top scorer Jamie Vardy equaliser for the champions. It was then left to new signing, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, to his first competitive and winning goal for the Red Devils.

According to statistic from WhoScored.com, both teams had 9 shots but Manchester United had 6 on target against 2 from Leicester City. The pass successful rate was 82% and 75% respectively.

From a statistic point of view, Manchester United does deserve to win the match.

While it is always good to win some silverware, the Charity Shield win does not prove anything. But it will give the winner a boost when the season begins in a week time.

One to ten. Premier League predictions

As we moved into the month of August, fans of the English Premier League are starting to come out from their hibernation mode.

It is because August is when the new season will begin.

The curtain raiser is the FA Charity Shield on 7th August between Champions Leicester City and FA Cup Winner Manchester United.

So how is your team going to perform in the coming season? Let us make our prediction for the top 10.

Manchester City
Serial winner Pep Guardiola has taken over and has laid down his rules. With another four new signings expected to be completed soon, Manchester City will take some stopping. Our prediction: 1st

Manchester United
Like cross-town rival, Manchester United has appointed a serial winner by the name of Jose Mourinho. And along with him, came additions in the form of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan. The latter two smells goals and it will be fun time at Old Trafford. Our prediction: 2nd

Chelsea
With Antonio Conte at helm and a few additions later, the self-destruction will not happen again. Should be good enough to challenge for the title but will fall just short. Our prediction: 3rd

Arsenal
There are obvious flaw in the team and Arsene Wenger seems to have a difficult time fixing it. A more prolific striker and a dominating central back is what they need to really challenge for the title. Until he can find them, Champions League spot is what they will be fighting for. Our prediction: 4th

Tottenham
Always the bridemaid of the bridemaid, it looks like another similar ending for Tottenham. While they do possess a good squad, they lack that extra bit of quality to push through. Our prediction: 5th

Liverpool
Jurgen Klopp first full season in charge but the Reds does not the necessary quality to finally end their title drought. Their possible piece of silverware should come in the form of a cup competition. Our prediction: 6th

West Ham
One of the more exciting teams to watch, the Hammers will be pushing hard for one of the Europa League spot. Other than that, there is nothing much to look forward to. Our prediction: 7th

Southampton
While the heady days in the top four is gone, Southampton has done very well despite having to rebuild their squad every season. European spot will be too much an ask. Our prediction: 8th

Everton
A new owner and manager, this will be a transitional period for the Toffees. They have done well on shoestring budget previously and in new owner, Farhad Moshiri, the blue side of Mersey might not have to work under that constraint anymore. How they will fare depends much on their ability to retain players like Lukaku and Stones. Our prediction: 9th

Leicester
Two of their best players last season, N'Golo Kante has left and Riyad Mahrez has refused to commit his future to the club. Even if they are still around, repeating their feat is unlikely. There is a niggling feeling that the foxes will suffer the "the second season" syndrome. Our prediction: 10th

Europe stars joins the Premier League

With the season still a few weeks away, what is feedings the fans' appetite for action is the transfer coming in and out of their favourite club.

Indeed, there are some big signings which will make the coming season one of the most interesting in the history of the Premier League.

Let us take a look at some of the biggest transfer so far and we will only be covering new additions from abroad.

Granit Xhaka - Arsenal
After an impressive Euro 2016, Arsenal looks as if they have gotten a gem. Hard tackler with an eye for a pass, Xhaka will add much needed steel to a midfield brimming with good technical players.

Michy Batshuayi - Chelsea
Another of Belgium's impressive strikers. With 21 goals* and 9 assists*, Chelsea will be hoping they have found the new Didier Drogba.

Ilkay Gundogan - Manchester City
One of the best midfielders in Europe before injuries pampered his progress. If he can stay injury free and rediscover his form, Gundogan will be a firm crowd favourite.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic - Manchester United
Without doubt, the biggest signing thus far, Ibrahimovic brings with him goals and experience. Age might be catching up, but if he replicate his 47 goals* haul last season, the Red Devils have plenty to look forward to.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan - Manchester United
A front-line of Rooney, Ibrahimovic and Mkhitaryan will be handful for even the stingiest of defence. With 19 goals* and 11 assists*, the Armenian is worth every cents that the Red Devils has dished out.

Vincent Janssen - Tottenham
With 31 goals* for AZ Almaar, the Dutch international will help Kane share some of the goal scoring responsibilities. After coming so close last season, the white lilywhites that the new addition will be final puzzle to finally end their league title drought.

All hail Portugal

As EURO 2016 comes to an end, the soccer fans will go into hibernation mode until the season reopens in about a month's time.

Before that, let us take a look back at EURO 2016.

Due to the expanded format, we got smaller nations like Northern Ireland, Wales and Iceland taking part in a major tournament.

Credits to them, they performed admirably, especially Wales which went all the way to the semi-finals.

For the traditional powerhouses, they faced-off each other during the knock out stage.

Spain vs Italy, Italy vs Germany, Germany vs France, all "final worthy" match.

European champions had a few surprise winners in the past, most notably Denmark in 1992 and Greece in 2004. We can now add Portugal into the list.

After drawing all their group stage games, no one actually fancy the Portuguese. In fact, they have only won once, against Wales, over the course of 90mins.

But their defensive work put in an excellent shift which resulted in their first major senior silverware.

Therefore it is not surprising to see their best performing players being Raphael Guerreiro (7.45*), Pepe (7.38*) and Cedric Soares (7.34*).

Some might argue that this is anti-soccer, but defense is just as important as attack.

There are also some who said, Portugal is lucky to have gotten "weaker" opponents like Croatia, Poland and Wales enrouted to the final. But hey, you have to make your own luck.

They can say whatever they want, but at the end of the day, Portugal is the King of Europe.

The country vs club enigmas

When it comes to selection for the national teams in a major tournament, there are usually two criteria. One, the form of the players in the season before the tournament and the other the big name players.

However, there are times whereby the club form cannot be translated into country form and vice-versa.

Let us take a look at 5 players who club form differs vastly when donning the national colours.

* All ratings provided by WhoScored.com

Aaron Ramsey
It will not be far-fetched if we are to say that Ramsey was Wales' most influential player in their march to the semi-finals. With four assists, one goal and a rating of 7.7, the midfielder is in WhoScored.com team of the tournament. In contrast, Ramsey managed only a rating of 7.21 for his club.

Olivier Giroud
Like his Arsenal team-mate, Giroud is one player the Gunners' fans will not be too upset to see leaving the club. The striker's form coincide with Arsenal mid-season slump and not many would have predicted his impact for France. With a club rating of 7.07 versus 7.60 for his country, he certainly made his selection justifiable.

Eden Hazard
Hazard and his Chelsea team had a torrid season which resulted a personal rating of 7.11 for the recently concluded season. But his rating of 7.92 shows that his form picked up during the course of Euro 2016.

Thibaut Courtois
Like team and country mate Hazard, Courtois had a poor season with a rating of 6.66. His improved performance for Belgium culminated in him being named in WhoScored.com team. His rating of 7.1 ranked him as the best performing goalkeeper.

Cristiano Ronaldo
The biggest name in Euro 2016, the Portuguese was expected to take the tournament by storm. After a quiet start, Ronaldo started to chip in some goals. But his tournament rating of 7.37 paled to his club form of 7.99.

Do you think of any players who should be in the list? Let us know by leaving your comments below.

Gathering of the master tacticians

While the best players like Messi and Ronaldo is plying their trade in the La Liga, the coming Premier League season will see some of the best tacticians fighting it out.

Pep Guardiola and Antonio Conte will take charge of Manchester City and Chelsea respectively while Jose Mourinho has return to the English game, this time, in charge of Manchester United.

The new season will also be Jurgen Klopp's first after he took over Liverpool in midway in the recently concluded season.

Add these names to the likes of Arsene Wenger, Claudio Ranieri and Mauricio Pochettino, we are looking at almost the whose who in the game.

How will they fare and who were come up on top? Statistics provided by WhoScored.com

Pep Guardiola - Bayern Munich (last season average rating: 7.13)
From Barcelona to Bayern Munich, it has been silverwares wherever Pep choose to be.

Backed by the richest club owner in the world, Pep and his Manchester City side will take some stopping.

Do not be surprise if they take a step further in the Champions League.

Antonio Conte - Italy
Italy has done reasonably well in Euro 2016 despite going out against World champions Germany, via a penalty shootout.

Much of the credit should go to Conte who got his tactics right and played to Italy's strength.

If there is one person who can get Chelsea clicking again, it will be the Italian.

Jose Mourinho - Manchester United
Chelsea's failure to defend their title won in 2015 was down to the dressing room unrest between Mourinho and the players. This resulted in the Portuguese getting the sacked.

A winner almost everywhere he goes, the Red Devils' fan will be expecting nothing less than the silverware.

The rebuilding has began and from the purchases made thus far, it does seems like Manchester United has what it takes to return to their glory days.

Jurgen Klopp - Liverpool (last season average rating: 6.91)
This will be the German first full season in charge of Liverpool. He have added some new additions and no doubt will be looking to impose his high pressing game.

If he can do it successfully and with another few quality signings, the team will be a real threat. But till then, top four should be their target.

Arsene Wenger - Arsenal (last season average rating: 7.08)
In a season that promise so much, the Gunners got hit with an ever-so familiar spring collapse that derailed their title charge.

Beside being rather one-dimensional in their play, Wenger has failed to address the weakness of his squad. Very much will depends on what Wenger does in the transfer market.

It seems unlikely that the trend will change and the wait for the title will stretch on.

Claudio Ranieri - Leicester City (last season average rating: 7.06)
The Italian did the impossible last season when he led Leicester to glory. Deploying a counter-attack strategy, the Foxes sweep aside all opponents enroute to the Premier League title.

However, with the extra commitments in the form of the Champions League, there is fear that the team might not have the resources compete in both fronts.

They created a fairy tale and the tale will end in the new season.

Mauricio Pochettino - Tottenham (last season average rating: 7.01)
Tottenham pushed Leicester City hard for the title last season only to suffer their usual end of the season collapse.

While the Lilywhites provided some great entertainment, expecting them to close the gap will be asking too much.

Is the Premier League players setting Euro 2016 alight?

While England has been knocked out of Euro 2016, the Premier League is still very much represented in the semi-finals of the tournament.

Except for Germany, the rest of the nations does not have a fantastic league. So it is not surprising to see most of the players from Portugal, France and Wales plying their trade in a foreign league.

But what is surprising is the team with the most number of players still in Euro 2016, aside from Bayern Munich (8), is Crystal Palace.

The London club has 5 players. Mandanda and Yohan Cabaye for France, and Wayne Hennessey, Joe Ledley and Jonathan Williams for Wales.

Looking at the rest of the Premier League clubs, we have

Arsenal (4)
Olivier Giroud (France), Laurent Koscielny (France), Aaron Ramsey (Wales) and Mesut Ozil (Germany)

Liverpool (3)
Joe Allen (Wales), Danny Ward (Wales) Emre Can (Germany)

Manchester United (3)
Bastian Schweinsteiger (Germany), Anthony Martial (France) and Morgan Schneiderlin (France)

Manchester City (2)
Ellaquim Mangala (France), Barcary Sagna (France)

Southampton (2)
Cedric (Portugal), Jose Fonte (Portugal)

West Ham (2)
Dimitri Payet (France), James Collins (Wales)

Leicester (2)
N'Golo Kante (France), Andy King (Wales)

Tottenham (2)
Hugo Lloris (France), Ben Davis (Wales)

West Brom (1)
James Chester (Wales)

Swansea (2)
Neil Taylor (Wales), Ashley Williams (Wales)

While this is quite a number of players, how many of them are playing regularly and making a mark in the tournament?

Since soccer is all about goals, we will take a look first in that department (all statistics provided by WhoScored.,com).

With three goals each, Olivier Giroud and Dimitri Payet are the only two players in the top 10 goal scorers.

Next up is assist and in this department, Aaron Ramsey (4) and Dimitri Payet (2) ranks among the top 5 high "assister".

In terms of overall performance, only Payet, with an average rating of 8.37, rank in the top 5.

So, quantity over quality in this sense? Let us know by commenting below.

LVG facing the sack

The pressure is mounting on Louis Van Gaal after Manchester United suffered back-to-back defeat, first at relegation-threatened Sunderland followed by FC Midtjylland.

The question now on everyone's lip is, if Van Gaal is an upgrade of David Moyes. Let us take a look at the results under both managers.

Louis Van Gaal
Played 51 Win 28 Draw 12 Lose 11 Win %: 54.90

David Moyes
Played 51 Win 27 Draw 9 Lose 15 Win %: 52.94

Van Gaal's win percentage of 54.90% is just slightly better than Moyes' 52.94. But the amount of investments made by the former is almost 4 times as much, £249.6m compared to £67.7m.

With such heavy spendings, the fans have every right to demand better performances from their team.

Are they really that bad?

Based on WhoScored.com, the Red Devils garnered an average rating of 6.83, 56% of possession, 10.2 shots conceded per game and 11.6 shots per game for themselves.

Hardly vintage Manchester United at her peak.

They are now six points away from Manchester City who occupied the fourth position. The prospect of missing out on the Champions

League position is real.

When this becomes a reality, one would expect Van Gaal to be shown the door.

In fact, there are rumours going around that the Dutchman will be sack soon and replace by Jose Mourinho. The appointment could happen as early as before Arsenal trip to Old Trafford.

Heroics return for double strikers

Heroics return for double strikers

Wahbi Khazri put relegation threatened side, Sunderland, ahead only for Anthony Martial to level the score for Manchester United. But a late own goal by David De Gea condemned the Red Devils to another defeat.

Giannelli Imbula Wanga, Ibrahim Afellay and Joselu gave Stoke City a 3-0 lead at Dean Court while Matt Ritchie scored a consolation goal for Bournemouth.

Troy Deeney scored from the penalty spot to put Watford ahead but Emmanuel Adebayor equalised for Crystal Palace on the stroke of half time. Troy Deeney then scored his second of the match and Palace's hopes for rescuing a point were dashed when Pape Ndiaye Souare got himself sent off.

Jose Salomon Rondon scored the only goal of the game to give West Brom a 1-0 away victory over Everton.

Robert Brady and Wesley Hoolahan gave Norwich a 2-0 lead over West Ham, but Dimitri Payet pulled a goal back. The comeback was completed three minutes later when Mark Noble made it 2-2.

A second-half goal from Shane Long was enough for Southampton as they left the Liberty Stadium with all three points.

Gus Hiddink unbeaten run as Chelsea's manager continues as the Blues defeated Newcastle 5-1. Diego Costa opened the scoring and Pedro added a second. Willian then made it 3-0 before Pedro scored his second. Bertrand Traore completed the rout with the fifth and Andros Townsend scored a consolation goal for away side.

Jamie Vardy scored a debatable penalty on the stroke of half time. Theo Walcott equalised for Arsenal after Leicester's Danny Simpson got himself sent-off for two yellow cards offences. Danny Welback, on his first game back after a 10 months laid off, headed home the winner with virtually the last kick of the game.

Liverpool got their biggest win of the season at cellar club Aston Villa. Daniel Sturridge, in his first start in two months, opened the floodgate and James Milner added the second. Further goals from Emre Can, Divock Origi, Nathaniel Clyne and Kolo Toure complete a miserable day for the Villans.

In another top of the table clash, Tottenham took the lead through a Harry Kane's controversial penalty. Kelechi Iheanacho levelled the score for Manchester City but Christian Eriksen scored the winning goal after a delightful pass from Lamela.

Stars aligning for Arsenal

Arsenal must be dreading their trip to the Britannia Stadium to face Stoke City. So often the bogey team for Arsenal, they must be glad to come away from the fixture with a point.

Some will say this is just another game, unlike the local derbies or top of the table clash. But is this really so? Not, according to the fortune tellers among the fans.

They will look into the history books and point out a fact. In the past 5 seasons, no eventual league champion has lost at the Britannia Stadium.

Looking at the likely contenders for the title this season, Stoke has beaten both Manchester clubs while Tottenham has yet to visit Stoke. Only Arsenal and Leicester has gone and came away without suffering a defeat. If we are to push further, Liverpool has recorded a win.

The historians in them went further. Out of the five seasons, four teams who led the table on New Year's Day remain in top spot at the end of the season. And the club who is leading the pack on New Year's Day, Arsenal.

Putting both "facts" together, the fortune telling instinct kicks in and they predicted that the Gunners will be crowned champions come May. It is written in the stars, they says.

How far is their prediction from the reality? Let us look at the statistic provided by WhoScored.com.

With an overall rating of 7.07, Arsenal are the top in terms of performance points, followed closely by Leicester with a score of 7.02.

Arsenal under Wenger's reign is known for their possession and passing game. While they have somewhat change their tactics this season, they are still among the top of the pile with 55.8% possession and 84.3% successful passes.

One surprising stats is the number of goals from counter-attack. Speed is essential during a counter attack and with a forward line consisting of Sanchez, Walcott, Chamberlain and aided by Bellerin raiding down the right flank, they have plenty of it. How they cannot take advantage of it is anyone's guess.

Topping almost in all categories, it does looks like the London club is in for a real shout. The fortune tellers could be right afterall.

But there is one fact they missed out. The only team which was at the top on New Year's Day and failed to win the title, ARSENAL.

Do you think Arsenal will end their 12 years wait for the league title?

Tuesday 19 January 2016

England greatest striker

While both teams are hardly the force they used to be, the match between Liverpool and Manchester United will always be one of the most anticipated game of the season. It is no difference when the two side met over the weekend.

How the game panned out mirror the problems bugging either side. Despite playing better and having created better chances, Liverpool is unable to find a way to goal. Manchester United on the other hand, scored with probably their only clear-cut chance, when Wayne Rooney reacted the quickest after Marouane Fellani's header came back off the crossbar.

In scoring the goal, Rooney has created history. Firstly, this is his first goal at Anfield in more than 10 years. Secondly, with 176 goals Premier League goals for the Red Devils, he became the player who scored the most Premier League goals for a single club, surpressing Thierry Henry's record of 175 goals for Arsenal.

His current total goal tally stands at 242 goals in all competition, just 7 shy of Sir Bobby Charlton's all time record of 249. At 30 years of age, there are plenty of chances left for him overtake and become Manchester United greatest scorer.

On the comparison with Sir Bobby Charlton, Rooney has overtaken former's 45 years reign as England's all time leading scorer.

With 6 goals in 17 league appearances, according to WhoScored.com, this is hardly Rooney's vintage season. But time and again, the England skipper bailed his side out.

Records are crumbling and the next in line will be Peter Shilton's record of 129 appearances for the Three Lions. With 109 caps, don't bet against it happening.

So, is Wayne Rooney the best English striker ever for both club and country?

Half time report: 2015 - 16

As we moved into the second part of the season, let us take a look at the first half and how the teams have performed.

Arsenal
A lengthy injury list is threatening to derail their season again. But so far, the Gunners have been holding strong. Their season could very well depends either on the players keeping themselves fit or any reinforcement that Wenger might bring in. WhoScored.com rating: 7.08

Leicester
Realistically speaking, survival ought to be their main objective this season. Not only have they met it in double quick time, they have threatening to gatecrash the big five's party, leading the table at one point. But a win-less and goal-less 3 games run seems to suggest that the bubble has burst. WhoScored.com rating: 7.01

Manchester City
The Citizens can be brilliant in one match and atrocious the next. The absense of captain, Vincent Kompany, does not make things any better. One would expect City to kick on in the second half of the season and make it a real charge at the title. WhoScored.com rating: 6.99

Tottenham Hotspurs
Slowly and quietly, Mauricio Pochettino is building a team that could challenge for the title. But this is a season too soon but it would not hurt if Pochettino could bring Champions League football back to White Hart Lane. WhoScored.com rating: 7.00

Manchester United
With heavy investments in the summer, the fans are waiting in anticipation for the good times to return. But a return of just 24 goals is not what the fans expect to see. Louis Van Gaal's honeymoon period is definitely over and unless he could turn it over, we should see the his back at the end of the season. WhoScored.com rating: 6.82

West Ham
The Hammers have played some brilliant soccer at times and have defeated the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea. They have sacrified Europa League for the Premier League and it looks like the trade-off has been justified. WhoScored.com rating: 6.92

Crystal Palace
Alan Pardew continued his good work from last season. Together with Leicester and West Ham, they have been the surprise teams this season. Barring a total collapse, they will be fighting for another season next. Maybe an Europa League place to boot. WhoScored.com rating: 6.85

Liverpool
Jurgen Klopp took over from Brendan Rodgers who was sacked in October. The change in management, however, did not bring about an upturn in form. Until Klopp brings in his players, the problems from last season will continue to bug them. Till then, Capital One cup looks like their only chance of a silverware. WhoScored.com rating: 6.83

Watford
The hornets is among the favourites for relegation but among the teams that were promoted last season, they play the best football. They are just 4 wins away from securing their status and they should just do it. WhoScored.com rating: 6.85

Stoke
Mark Hughes attempt of cnverting Stoke's style of play must be lauded but this has not translate to result. They will be safe with nothing to look forward to unless they can overturn their results in the second lef of the Capital One Cup semi-finals. WhoScored.com rating: 6.80.

Everton
The Toffees is in a situation whereby their results does not reflect their performances. They will have nothing to fight for in the Premier League but they in the semi-finals of the Capital One Cup and could potentially set up a Wembley meeting against cross-town rival, Liverpool. WhoScored.com rating: 6.93

West Brom
Another club whose objective is to secure their status in the top flight and they have been doing just that. Not setting the league on fire nor looking up or down at their fellow strugglers. WhoScored.com rating: 6.74

Southampton
The heady days of being in the top four seems a long time ago. On their days, they could churn out brilliant results but it is getting rarer. Their focus should be keeping their star players and rebuilding the team in the summer. WhoScored.com rating: 6.83

Chelsea
One of the worst, if not the worst, title defense. The rift between Jose Mourinho and the players has seen the blues averaging just one victory a month. Guus Hiddink has since taken over Mourinho as manager, albeit an interim one. Their only hope of appearing in next season Champions League lays in them winning the trophy this season. WhoScored.com rating: 6.81

Norwich
Another promoted side who is expected to struggle for survival but is doing enough at the moment. They do have some notably results like holding Arsenal and Liverpool to a draw and defeating Manchester United at Old Trafford. Overall, they should start to get nervous soon. WhoScored.com rating: 6.67

Bournemouth
Like Norwich, they are doing just enough at the moment. They should be worried towards the business end of the season. WhoScored.com rating: 6.73

Swansea
Another club who parted ways with their manager midway through the season. With only one win in 11 games, it is not difficult to understand the rational behind the sacking. But Swansea might regret their decision, given that Garry Monk has the best win ratio of any Swansea manager (including Brendan Rodgers and Michael Laudrup) in the Premier League. WhoScored.com rating: 6.69

Newcastle
It looks increasingly like a mirror of last season whereby they struggled throughout and only manage to beat the drop at the end of the season. Fans will be at the edge of their seats and biting their fingernails. WhoScored.com rating: 6.68

Sunderland
Like their fiercest rival, Newcastle. See above for our half time report. WhoScored.com rating: 6.68

Aston Villa
Bottom of the table, 11 points from safety, new manager Remi Garde has a tough assignment on hand. Their predicament is rather surprising, especially after signing the likes of Jordan Ayew, Scott Sinclair and Joleon Lescott. Survival is not impossible but they will have to start winning their games. WhoScored.com rating: 6.72

Wednesday 6 January 2016

Arsenal extend lead. City keep pace.

Michail Antonio put West Ham ahead under controversial circumstances. Former Reds' striker Andy Carroll added a second with a typical bullet header.

Arsenal were made to work hard for their 1-0 victory over Newcastle. The visitors had the better chances but found Petr Cech near impossible to breach. They were made to pay when Laurent Koscielny popped out with the winner.

Leicester's goal-less streak extends to 3 games when they were held to a 0-0 draw by Bournemouth. Riyad Mahrez had the best chance of the game but he missed from the penalty spot.

Manchester United ended their 6 games winless run with a 2-1 victory over Swansea. Wayne Rooney scored the winning goal after Gylfi Sigurdsson cancelled out Anthony Martial's opener.

Alexander Tettey scored the only goal of the game to give Norwich a 1-0 win over Southampton which saw Victor Wanyama sent off shortly before the goal.

Sunderland came away with three important points against fellow struggler, Aston Villa. Patrick van Aanholt gave Sunderland the lead with  Carles Gil equalising for the away side. Jermain Defoe then scored two goals to give Sunderland the win.

Jonny Evans late goal gave West Brom a 2-1 victory over Stoke after Stephane Sessegnon and Jonathan Walters had levelled the score at 1-1.

Manchester City scored two goals in three minutes to leave Vicarage Road with all three points. Yaya Toure cancelled out Aleksandar Kolarov's own goal before Sergio Aguero scored the winning goal.

Chelsea continue their revival under manager Guus Hiddink. Oscar, Willian and Diego Costa scored the goals.

Points were shared between Everton and Tottenham. Ex-Spurs player, Aaron Lennon gave Everton the lead before Dele Alli equalised at the stroke of half time.
